Licensing and Selling Terms and Templates

Welcome to Echo Knowledge Base!

When a client purchases a track on your website they have to click a check box to confirm that they accept the License Terms & Conditions. What most people do is have a page on their website where they list the License Terms and Conditions.  For example you could create a new “License Terms” page or a new “Legal” page. Use the Page Creator tool for this.

The License Terms and Conditions become valid once the customer pays and receives their License Confirmation and Payment Receipt email (the automatic email a customer receives when they pay for the track).

Whilst the main body content of this email is fixed – it states the customer name, the license type they have selected and their payment amount – you can change/personalise the top and bottom sections of the email. So here you can add a link to your page containing your license terms and conditions.

You change the header and footer content of the email here: /manage_whitelabel/whitelabel_management/siteinfo/ – scroll down until your see the Email Header and Email Footer boxes.

I suggest you make a test payment (set yourself up with a 98% promo code in the promo code area) and see the email that is generated. You can refund yourself in your Stripe account or allow the payment to circle back to your linked bank account. Remember Stripe only accepts payments over a minimum of $1 (or equivalent) so don’t set a crazy low discount code.

For your License Terms and Conditions page, we do have a couple of template licenses that you could adapt. One is for Single Purchases online and one is for Blanket Licenses. I have attached them to this email. Just keep in mind that these might not be exactly suitable for the way you want to license your music and it is not us giving you legal advice…. It’s set to be under UK law – so you might want to change that section to the jurisdiction that you operate in.

If these templates don’t suffice, you could always look at sites that are operating in a similar way to you and use their T&C’s as a bit of a guide. As your site grows you’ll probably want to take some legal advice to get some bespoke T&C’s put in place.
